40 miles on 40 pound bikes in the desert with the three best riders I know. All accomplished in two days. We rode in 100+ degree direct sun, broke two trucks and one bike but who's counting, right?
Back to the studio this week. Finalizing Nate Hrivnak's debut album and mixing an LP for More Than Physics.
Last week I spent two days tracking an incredible percussion duo called More Than Physics. I had never heard of a Hand Pan before I saw Clint and Jon performing at Astoria about a month ago. It's a beautiful instrument and with Jon on tabla & marimba the sounds they generated were like nothing I've heard before. Beautiful, lush and inspiring to say the least.
Aaron Youngberg (Swingfingers owner), Clint Wilcox, Jonathan Sadler and Myself.
I've gone and done it. I upgraded to Pro Tools 11 & it went off without a hitch.
In the old days you could spend days on the phone, searching for serial numbers and reinstalling old versions of this or that.. I couldn't even update quicktime without issues!
I bought a 512c on eBay. Turns out the seller is the guitar player from Blind Melon. Somehow I keep running into these guys...
Check the Gear List tab for an updated list of equipment and keep your eyes peeled! Many cool projects are in the works right now.
Thanks to Michael Kirkpatrick, More Than Physics, Poor Boy, The Widows Bane and Peace Officer for making my FoCo MX experience this year. I ran into countless artists I've worked with over the last six years in town and I wish I could clone myself every year to see it all.
It was almost too easy to get into Aggie last night to see The Widow's Bane. The last time I saw these guys we were cutting their debut LP "Don't Be Afraid, It's Only Death". In a move I didn't see coming they announced a Leonard Cohen song which happened to be one of my favorite songs "Waiting for the Miracle". Classic...
After that we were off to Avagadro's Number for a second weekend in a row with Dub Hop masters Peace Officer. Check out the video Clint Willcox took last night during the set. Doing sound and dubbing for these guys is about as good as it gets.
Back to mixing.
Up today is UK sensation Damon C Scott. He's got a #1 track over there. Hurry for us! Long time partner in crime David Levy of Brooklyn produced this cut. It's danceable but I'm only tapping my feet today.
Joel and I just got back from a long weekend in Boulder. The rain on I-25 was literally blowing sideways while Joel accelerated through each burst at 70+mph. What a ride!
Nate's debut four song EP was recorded at Altitude Recording in Boulder, CO by Kris Smith and features Brad Poto (The Holler!) on bass guitar, Joel Decatur (ghost in the machine collective) on electric & acoustic guitars and myself on drums.
Check out Nate on Facebook.
